Dor Atkinson
middle grade and young adult fantasy author
When I was a kid, if anybody came knocking on my door, I would yell: "I'm doing a story!"
Today, while chasing after my 9-year-old actor and blooming writer, I'm a college educator, theatre director, and writer of young adult and middle grade fantasy.
My stories feature:
Misfit young folk (usually artists) coming into their power with help from their friends;

Young people in fantastical worlds digging for the truth about their families;

Journeys into deadly darkness (with a lot of wit + snark);

Wings and circuses and smiling villains;
Friends to enemies to friends;
Quirky, surreal settings a la Miyazaki;
Underdogs confronting tyrants and lighting the fuse of revolution.

Some of my completed MG fantasies include:

JAREN SILVERWING AND THE FORBIDDEN SPELL, a fresh spin on Scottish fairy lore, in which an outlaw fairy actor hunts the pieces of an enchanted mask to find his parents and free his people from a terrible spell. (Skyborn x Avatar TLA)

THE ORACLE LINE, a re-imagining of the Prometheus myth in the Dust Bowl, when an outcast 12-year-old musician leaps aboard a magical train to rescue his Titan folk singer uncle from the wrath of Zeus.

EVIE AND THE BOY FROM THE SEA in which a lonely girl rescues a merboy and plunges into his world to help him face seven deadly trials and unlock her own magic . (Nevermoor x Luca)
